DESCRIPTION:10 rounds of bingo with a 50/50 raffle\, silent auction\, dinner\, dessert\, swag bags and entertainment provided by DJ Jake DeLaCruz to raise funds to further our mission to eliminate pediatric drowning in the Tampa Bay area.\n\n\n\nThe recent tragic loss of world class athletes Bode Miller & Morgan Beck's daughter Emeline showed that no one is immune to losing a child to drowning. In fact\, drowning is the leading cause of death NATIONWIDE for children ages 1-4\, and Florida leads the nation in those startling statistics. Drowning is swift and silent\, but it is also largely preventable. Water Smart Tots hopes to eliminate this pediatric drowning epidemic.\n\n\n\nWater Smart Tots\, Inc. is a 501(C)3 nonprofit corporation dedicated to eliminating pediatric drowning in the Tampa Bay Area by promoting awareness through (1) water safety education and by (2) providing access to survival swimming skills to children ages 12 months to 6 years who are financially underprivileged\, or who have special needs. The USA Swimming Foundation states "79 percent of children in families with household incomes less than $50\,000 have no/low swimming ability." Water Smart Tots was founded on the belief that every child should have these potentially life-saving skills\, regardless of socioeconomic status or disability. To date\, we have awarded over 225 children with these self-rescue aquatic skills.\n\n\n\nThe American Academy of Pediatrics states that parents should take a multi-layered approach towards drowning prevention including pool barriers and parental supervision. However\, there are often breakdowns in one or more of these layers and that is where the importance of swim lessons comes into play. Water Smart Tots is dedicated to providing not only scholarships for survival swim lessons\, but also water safety education to provide an additional layer of protection to young children. Since 2015\, we have provided water safety and drowning prevention education to over 2\,200 Tampa Bay area children ages 1.5-7 years old.
