About Us

The Restoration Hem Project (RHP) is a 501(c)3 organization started in 2016 to bring water and sanitation solutions for the communities in need.

THE PROBLEM
1 in 5 girls will miss school during her period

72% of girls in Zimbabwe do not have access to appropriate supplies to manage their periods.

In rural and urban Zimbabwe, 76% of girls do not understand the changes happening to their bodies before the start of their first period.

Millions of people in Zimbabwe do not have access to safe drinking water.

70% of schools in Zimbabwe don’t have appropriate facilities for girls to manage their periods.

THE IMPACT OF THE PROBLEM
Poor hygiene resulting in spreading of waterborne diseases.

Girls fail to manage menstruation properly.

Students spend many hours walking to collect water.

Girls missing school and falling behind on studies

Young girls dropping out of school and creates room for early marriages.

Early pregnancies.

Use of newspapers, cornhusks, and old rags to manage their flow.

The stigma and shame associated with period poverty can lead to anxiety, depression, and a negative body image.
